Wine Tasting

Status:Active, open to new members
Leader:
Grahame Percival Tel: 454O6
When: Monthly on Thursday evenings
4th week 7:30pm
Venue: Members' Home
Cost: £7.50

Our aim is to have a convivial evening and learn more about wine by comparing and contrasting different grape varieties and blends from a range of countries and regions. We investigate sources, producers and production methods, and consider aromas, flavours, food matches and value for money. Members take it in turns to buy and present wines to the group. We meet every 4th Thursday of the month at 7:30 p.m. in members’ homes on an agreed rota basis. The hosts choose and research the wines and provide bread/crackers/cheese.

Members pay £7.50 per meeting and come equipped with 6 (tasting) glasses, something suitable in which to carry them, and something with which to write. The format usually involves tasting three whites and three reds on any theme of the hosts’ choosing, but this approach is flexible and can be modified by mutual consent.

I am always willing to help set up a second group so, if you are interested, please contact me, Grahame Percival or the Groups Co-ordinator.

I am no expert but have run similar groups for over 20 years. There is no ‘blind’ tasting, putting members on the spot. Most of us drink wine at some time or other, usually with food. The more we know about it, the easier it is to choose something appropriate to drink on its own or with a meal.
