The Latin 1 group started with beginners and people with rusty school Latin. We have gone through the Minimus series, a cartoon story of the life of a family in Vindolanda. This was designed for children from age 7 to 13. Having completed that, we are now using the Cambridge course, Stage 1. This is more demanding than Minimus but still quite gentle, with practice to reinforce the points learned.

There are also pages in English about Roman history, and there's plenty of chat about that. We also talk about English words that are still related to their Latin meaning. Fortunatus means fortunate. Agenda means list of things to be done. Villa means house. There are a surprising number of words like this.

The group is mixed ability, some still considering themselves beginners and some quite advanced. The Cambridge course does not assume previous knowledge, so is possible for new beginners. Currently we could make room for two new members at whatever level.
