Some Classic Cinema parish notices:
- Do you know how our programme relates to u3a 25 years? No prizes, but bragging points are available, if you can spot all these films’ connections with 25, JUBILEE, 2001, 2026, or SILVER, inspired by the 25th Anniversary of the u3a!
- Could you organise a group trip to a retrospective screening in a cinema? Through April, May and June for Amelie, Rob Reiner, Stephen Spielberg, Highlander, "music" like Ray Charles, Michael Jackson, Johnny Cash, Eminem or Janet Jackson films. Ally will be happy to help. This includes external events mentioned before e.g.:
- The Talking Pictures Festival of Film and TV at The Palace Theatre, Redditch, Sunday 13 Sept 2026.
Venue options
Having found a feasible alternative venue Ally is proposing that we look at these options:
OPTION 1: Basement at The Evesham Methodist Church
- As now, NO CHANGE!
OPTION 2: The Bengeworth
Formerly the Servicemen's Club or the Social Club, The Bengeworth, 18 Coronation St, Evesham, WR11 3DA.
- Room: Downstairs Function Room.
- Map: Click https://maps.app.goo.gl/2ERjnjnNEteg1T6q8 for Google Maps.
- Days: Monday or Thursday.
- Which week: First and Third, or Second and Fourth.
- Time: 10 am, or 12 pm, or 2 pm.
As mentioned at the last screening, The Bengeworth is cheaper and would require less work by the group leader and volunteers. It is only available Mondays or Thursdays, 10 am - 5 pm.
OPTION 3: Alternate venues
To accommodate members who struggle with mornings, or other groups' times, AND to ease the duties of the group leader:
- Regularly, to alternate Classic Cinema at The Evesham Methodist Church on Friday week 1, and The Bengeworth on Monday during week 3, for example.
OPTION 4: Change times at The Evesham Methodist Church
To accommodate members who struggle with mornings, or other groups' times:
- Regularly, to alternate Classic Cinema at The Evesham Methodist Church at 10 am on Friday week 1, and at 2 pm on Friday week 3.

About Classic Cinema
We meet in the basement of the Evesham Methodist Church and discs from our members' collections are projected on the screen, and subtitles are shown. We break for tea or coffee and ask £4 to cover the room rent.
Do you love watching films? Do you love going to the cinema? Do you like to hear other people's take on an old film? What about watching a comedy with an audience - you'll find yourself laughing out loud much more than watching the TV at home. There is always a welcome for new members. Contact Alun Edwards and let us know you are coming.
This group began in 2009. Since then we have introduced, watched, enjoyed (usually) and discussed over 350 feature films and dozens of documentary and comedy shorts - all of them a treat in their way, all of them worthwhile, and we often poll our members to choose which movies to show again.
I was new to u3a. Very uncertain about meeting new people, but I love old films. As soon as I walked in the coordinator greeted me, and immediately found someone to look after me and show the ropes. I heard people speaking openly about Talking Pictures TV - none of my friends know what I am talking about when I mention what I saw recently on this channel.
