Photography Competition: the u3a in Evesham

To mark its 25th Anniversary, our u3a is celebrating positive images of retired people in Evesham and the district by running a photography competition. The winners will be announced during the u3a Open meeting on 7 October 2026, to coincide with the United Nations International Day of Older Persons.

Prizes for the u3a’s 25th Anniversary Photography Competition:

  • First Prize: chosen by the u3a’s judging committee, along with commended entries.
  • Public Vote Winner: chosen by u3a members attending the u3a Open meeting on 7 Oct 2026.

All images may be used by the Evesham and District u3a in our publicity. A few of the best images will be contributed to third-party libraries, including other u3a branches, the Third Age Trust, and the Centre for Ageing Better. From these, media and other organisations may source positive images of ageing, and amplify the u3a’s activity in this.

Subject Matter

Evesham and District u3a want this competition to help challenge the negative and stereotypical ways in which older people are often represented, that is “vulnerable”, “frail and frumpy”, or “rich and grumpy”, as identified in recent academic studies.

Instead, the u3a’s 25th Anniversary Photography Competition will celebrate the diversity of older people’s lives through their activities in the 90+ groups run voluntarily by u3a members in Evesham and District. In addition to activity photos, you may submit selfies, self-portraits, or portrait photos.

Judging criteria

Keep in mind that the judges will be considering:

  • the ethos of the u3a and the motto “LEARN, LAUGH, LIVE”;
  • how u3a members participate in and around Evesham;
  • photography technique; and
  • how they represent the region's diverse population and our time.

The admin team supporting the competition will do their best to ensure that photographs are judged anonymously.
